An assessment of the potential environmental impacts of a proposal is conducted in order to provide detailed information to the consent authority. This assists them to assess whether a proposal should be approved.
The Minister of Planning is the consent authority for the Bamarang Gas Turbine project.
An environmental assessment focuses on the key requirements specified in the Director General’s Requirements. In the case of this project, these included a strategic justification, information about related infrastructure provision, detail on the potential for impacts on air quality, including greenhouse, on flora and fauna, bushfire safety, water consumption and water cycle management. It also considered strategies to keep impacts to a minimum of these and other potential environmental issues.

Once completed, an environmental assessment report is submitted to the Department of Planning and the Department then places it on public exhibition for further comment by interested parties.
