Development approval has been received for Stage 1 of the project which will consist of two open cycle gas turbines with a total capacity of approximately 300MW.
Concept approval has also been granted for Stage 2 which would see the facility converted to a combined cycle plant as the need arises. This would increase its capacity to approximately 400MW.
Delta is now finalising further detailed Environmental Assessments and will submit for final approval in mid January 2008. The environmental assessment report will be placed on public exhibition as advertised by the Department of Planning, and community members are invited to make further comment.
Development approval is valid for a five year period.
The formal approval documentation received from the Department of Planning for Stage One requires Delta to:
provide compensatory habitat for clearing vegetation (two hectares will be provided for each one cleared)
not remove Nowra Heath Myrtle, a threatened species local to the area; and
work with the Department of Defence to ensure compatibility with HMAS Albatross operations.
